The Marc Aurel Quartett was founded in 2018 at the University of Music
and Performing Arts Vienna, where they are studying with Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet)
and Vida Vujic. The ensemble has already performed at prestigious venues such as
Musikverein Vienna, Radiokulturhaus Vienna, Grafenegg, Harmos Festival (Portugal),
Gent Festival (Belgium), isa Festival (Austria) as well as Swiss Chamber Concerts.
They are prize winners at “Concorso Massimiliano Antonelli” (Italy),
“Turniej Kameralny” (Poland) and “isa – International Summer Academy” (Austria). Amongst
their chamber music partners are Gilad Karni and Petr Prause. The Marc Aurel Quartett is
a regular guest at ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and ProQuartet France.
In 2019 they had a collaboration project with Max Reinhardt Seminar. Further artistic influence
came from Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett), Lawrence Dutton (Emerson Quartet),
Jan Talich (Talich Quartet) and Heinz Holliger.
The four musicians have named themselves after the Roman emperor and philosopher
Marc Aurel, who spent the last years of his life in Vindobona (now Vienna).
